What can a Region Free DVD player do for me?

Region Free DVD Explained

A Region Free DVD Player lets you watch your favorite international DVD films and TV programs in their original languages on your North American TV. Or, if you're living or working overseas, being able to watch your favorite films from home.

After a lot of research we've discovered the most affordable way to do this. We show you where to buy a commonly available DVD players, such as the Toshiba SD4900 DVD Player, and how to upgrade it (in 1 minute or less) to play most European and other international DVDs on your North American TV (or North America films on your PAL TV). Don't pay a fortune for a region free DVD player. Use our upgrade instructions and we guarantee you'll save up to $200.

We also provide links to International DVD retailers that sell both International DVD's as well as North American DVDs. Whether you're a foreign film fan, living or working in another country, or teaching your children another language (as we are) you'll enjoy what region free DVD players can do for you.

Our Region Free DVD players - Norcent DP300 and Sampo DVE612N

Two popular region free DVD players, the Norcent DP300, Sampo DVE-612 and various North American and international DVDs.

The Toshiba SD4900 allows you to play International DVD's in North America.

To let you do that, it overcomes two technical difficulties:
1. -the DVD regional encoding system-
DVDs are regionally coded to prevent them from being imported into countries where the film has not yet been released in the theaters. Unfortunately, regional coding also prevents you from viewing overseas films and TV programs that may never be available in North America.

The region free DVD player we recommend plays DVDs from all these 6 world regions.

REGIONS AREAS
1 United States, Canada
2 Japan, Europe, Middle-East, South Africa
3 South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Philippines
4 Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, South America
5 Former Soviet Union, Africa, Indian Sub-Continent
6 China

2. -different television broadcast systems around the world.
North American TV sets use the NTSC system, while many other countries use the PAL system. While it’s possible to modify many DVD players to be "Region-free" or "Code-free", you still won’t be able to watch foreign DVD's properly on your North American TV unless the DVD signal is converted to the NTSC system.

The Toshiba SD4900 player we recommend has a PAL-to-NTSC converter built in. This means you can watch a PAL DVD on your NTSC TV. Very few DVD players have this capability and you can’t find them in the average electronics store.
